Have a look at our weekly parent workshops.
The children absolutely loved the hands on DT workshop day with Penny Rowe.
They were tasked with building houses out of straw, sticks and clay for the 3 little pigs.
The children initially attempted to build the house out of the raw materials.
This process allowed them to experience the materials and to learn about the qualities of the materials and how to best use them.
We then explored how best to create a strong frame and used wire to create a dome.
The children weaved the materials and formed the shell of the houses.
They also created 3 little pigs and big bad wolf out of boxes, paper and masking tape wrapped in mod roc.
Since the workshop we have evaluated our work, written a recount of the day and we are currently learning about straw, stick and clay houses in Africa.
Chris Harman - Master Den Builder came to visit us in our first week back after school.
The children were shown how to construct a basic A frame and use the zip ties, then they set about building their own dens in teams.
The children loved the opportunity to create their own structures with limited interference from teh adults. This experience really brought together their team building skills and we saw excellent resilience and in the moment problem solving. It was excellent!!!
We are exploring Autumn in Europe using our senses to write a poem.
First we took a walk around school and used our senses to find out what we could smell, see, hear and feel on an Autumn morning in England. We then looked at our individual senses by exploring an orange.
We will be looking at European countries and exploring what Autumn looks like across Europe. We will discuss why we all experience Autumn now.
