Year 4

WELCOME TO YEAR 4!

This has been a wild and savage Term: learning all about the STONE AGE people and their civilisation!

 

We started off at Rock Bottom, our mountainside village of caves.  We learned how to build better huts - and we built some of our own! 

 

In Science, we learned about PREDATORS AND PREY, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.  We studied teeth patterns of different animals and what they told us about diet and lifestyle.  Putting all we learned into practice, we even designed our own prehistoric creatures and created fact files about them!

 

In our HOME READING, we have been collecting reading comments to progress along our READING ANIMALS (and most recently, our READING PLACES).  So, we have learned and written all about WOOLLY MAMMOTHS, GIANT SLOTHS and TERMINATOR PIGS!

 

We have studied BRANCHING DATABASES and used these to create our own CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE STORIES, some of which we have recorded for you to listen to - see below!!!

Welcome to our Class page!  Here, you will be able to learn more about what we're doing, how you can help your children and see some evidence of the great work and amazing events that we hope will inspire the children in their learning.

 

* We follow the School Motto:  "Every Child Safe, Every Child Happy, Every Child Growing" and we also care about our Featherbank Promise.   We believe that all children deserve a positive, engaging and supportive learning environment and hopefully, our classroom gives them a place to learn, feel welcome and do well.  

 

* We believe in good listening, good behaviour and good manners.  This can be everything from saying "Please" and "Thank you" through to helping others who need support, offering to assist with class jobs, holding doors open for adults and looking after younger children in the playground & around school.

 

* We believe in challenging ourselves to do well:  not to accept a half-answer, a too-simple sentence, a short-cut that misses out important details.  We dedicate ourselves to using "RAP" time ( "Reflect And Perfect" ) to check over our work, spot and correct mistakes and improve our ideas further.

 

* We care greatly about our Topic-Led Learning and so much that we do comes from our Topic, which this Term is the STONE AGE.  Therefore, we've been studying Stone Age Water Cycles with Geography skills; ordering Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic peoples using our History skills; creating authentic Stone Age Artwork and exploring the world of the past with Stone Age Drama!

WEDNESDAY = PE, LIBRARY, SPELLING TEST, HOMEWORK IN

WED/THU/FRIDAY = NEW HOMEWORK HOME

SKELTON GRANGE TRIP

We went on an incredible trip to Skelton Grange, full of Caveman-style hunting, tracking, gathering, cooking - we even made a wattle and daub wall panel, gutted some fish and baked bread from grinding flour!
