MYTHS AND WONDERS!

Welcome to civilisation!  Here, in the most wondrous ANCIENT GREEK era, the world is creating itself anew.  We live in the shadow of MOUNT OLYMPUS, home to the Gods and Goddesses themselves.  We honour them through our works, sing to them in our theatres, praise them through all manner of artistic skills and endeavours.

We also stand tall as proud warriors, unflinching in our valour to defend our homes from invasion and conquest.  Our finest countrymen - and -women hail from one of our mighty CITY-STATES and none are greater than ATHENS and SPARTA!  We will dazzle and amaze you with our tales, fill you full of wonder at our genius and daring, enthrall you with our myths and legends!

Do you have the courage of Perseus, the cunning of Odysseus, the strength of Ares, the wisdom of Athene, the power of Zeus and the speed of Hermes? Could you fight Medusa and survive, out-wit Atlas and wrestle a minotaur into submission?  Well then: welcome!  Come share in our adventures and discover all that is great about ANCIENT GREECE!

LOOKING BACK AT THE FIRST HALF-TERM

Since September, we have really embraced the life of ANCIENT GREECE!

* The children have created their own Ancient Greek characters, to take through our journeys together.

* The children have been inspired by our class reader: ATTICUS's 100 GREEK MYTHS to design their own mythological adventures.

* The children have created their own Ancient Greek GODS and GODDESSES!

*  In DRAMA, we have been studying and performing the myth of THESEUS AND THE MINOTAUR and we have created our own versions of the legend!

AN EYE FOR DESIGN

The children have conducted an ARTIST STUDY of famous Ancient Greek sculptors, including LYSIPPOS, PHIDEAS, MYRON and SCOPAS.  They studied the form, pose, accessories, style and composition of the statues, made notes on what they discovered and started to create their very own sculptures out of clay.

A VISITOR FROM THE PAST!

We were amazed when a real-life SPARTAN WARRIOR turned up in our classroom to spend the day with us!  We had an amazing time, learning about the harsh and brutal life of growing up as a warrior in Ancient Sparta, explored the weapons and armour of the time, did shield wall training and acted out Greek Theatre plays!  It was an incredible time!
