Year 2 children have had a well deserved reward day today for their excellent school attendance this year. We started the day by making windmills and then - BIG surprise! Professor Dan Slater came into the classroom and we watched a Punch and Judy show!
In the afternoon we went outside and spread blankets on the grass, played games and ate ice cream before welcoming parents into the classroom to see our seaside films (created using Photostory 3).
A fantastic day for a lovely class.

Dictionaries for all!
In assembly on Monday 17th July, every child in Year 2 was presented with a dictionary to take with them into Key Stage 2.
Mr Scaife and Mr Milford presented them on behalf of Rotary Club of Aireborough - a very generous gift which many children were proud to show off to their parents at reading morning this week.
Sports Day
Well, the sun shone and a good time was had by all with
races run and stickers won!
You all looked fantastic in your coloured T-shirts.
Well done everyone!
Mexican mask making
We have finally finished our Mexican masks and we're really proud of the results!
Mexican Food Tasting
Today we had a taste of Mexico in Year 2!
Everyone tried some corn tortilla and tortilla chips with tomato salsa, guacamole, nacho chilli cheese and soured cream with chives.
There was a variety of reactions but quite a few clean plates!
Co-operative Maths Challenge
Today we worked in Maths teams to try to solve two problems. First we had to sort 8 cards out in as many different ways as we could and give reasons for the way we sorted. Next we had to work together to read clues and order the cards so that every clue was true. Some teams were really successful with this.
National Writing Day - 21st June 2017
Today saw the first ever National Writing Day and, of course, we had to mark this at Featherbank. The whole school took part with children and adults writing for pleasure for about an hour. The idea was to write about whatever you wanted to - it could be fiction, non-fiction or poetry. Some children even made their own books. Here are some photographs of Year 2 enjoying writing; for other classes please see the English section of the website.
Meanwood Valley Urban Farm
We enjoyed a very hot but very educational visit to MVUF today.
Please look at our photographs!
Huge thanks to Mrs Clark, Mr Kinloch, Mrs Newton, Mr Eatough and Mrs Morgan
for going with us and to all parents for paying for us to go!

NSPCC Dance-a-thon
We had a lot of fun with our sponsored dance-a-thon in the hall today! Year 2 raised a lot of money for a very worthwhile cause too. Many thanks to all those children who collected sponsors and to the people who sponsored them.
Our four dance champions!
Times Tables Treasure Hunt!
There was much excitement in Year 2 this morning as we embarked upon a times tables treasure hunt! Everyone had a sheet of calculations from the 2x, 5x and 10x tables. Once we answered them it was time to hunt for the answer around the classroom and write down the letter that went with it.
What great fun we had!
Mr Benn stories
This week, as well as doing lots of other work, we have been writing our own stories about Mr Benn and his adventures.
Here we are, hard at work, referring to our planning sheets, targets cards, dictionaries and word cards. We also have our green pencils to hand for any editing we need to do.
Model Vehicles
We have completed our design technology unit of work "Model Vehicles" The children attached the axles and wheels to their models today and then did a test drive in the classroom!
Today we were lucky enough to be visited by LJ and Martha from the Dogs Trust to help to teach us how to be safe around dogs. We learned how to recognise body language, how to approach a dog if we have the owner's permission and what to do to be safe if a dog approaches us.
Year 2 children decided to spend £25 of their attendance award money to make a donation to The Dogs Trust after our visit from LJ and Martha.
it must be time for maypole dancing! Here are some rather blurred actions shots of our first lesson.
How does your garden grow?
This term we are involved in another international project with USA, Mexico, Norway and Russia. Since we came back to school after Easter we have been planting and taking care of lots of seeds.
Plant-tastic!
There were some lovely results from the "unusual planting" homework activity!
Peer marking
After writing about something we did in the Easter holidays we worked with a partner to peer mark both books using our green editing pencils.
