Our School Dog

We are very excited to introduce you to Betty, who will be visiting school every Friday morning as our school dog.

Betty will be working alongside Mrs Turner in her role as Learning Mentor to provide one to one nurture sessions.

Betty is two years old and attends weekly training, working through the Good Dog Citizen scheme. She has also passed her assessment as a Pets as Therapy Dog. Some of the postivie benefits of a therapy dog include;

  • Supporting children's emotional wellbeing.
  • A calming effect on all members of the school community.
  • Improved behaviour and concentration.
  • Reduction in stress and improved self esteem.
  • Fostering a sense of responsibility.
  • Increasing enthusiasm for and enjoyment of animals.
  • Encouraging children to think and learn.

Betty will be a working dog whilst in school. This has been approved by the Governing Body and Leeds City Council have been notified. A copy of our risk assessment is on this web page for you to read.
